About
Legend of Saint Goose Story Section
The exact origins of the tale are unknown, but it begins with Georges, a monocle-wearing abbot from eastern France during the middle ages. Known as “the wise Abbot Goose” for his optimistic outlook, unsolicited advice, and flock of pet geese. Georges would visit townspeople with wine and words of wisdom. When a fire destroyed the abbey’s vineyard, Georges tried heating the wine to make it last longer. To his surprise, the wine became more potent as it cooled! The abbot continued to refine this process that is now known as distillation. Because of Georges’ strong faith, unselfish wisdom and spirit of curiosity, sainthood was bestowed on the abbot. His new nickname? Saint Goose.
